Councillors Gordon Jenkins and Catherine Rideout, together with your local resident representatives met Wil Sloan and Ashley Manoff of Precision Care recently to question them on their plans for Atlanta House.
Precision Care have now decided not to open a home for 'troubled and troublesome boys" as originally stated on their website and have withdrawn their application for Ofsted registration.
However, they stated that their plan is instead to open a "Therapeutic Home for a maximum of 4 girls, aged 12 to 18, who may have been abused and/or have some psychological condition, as well as eating disorders or neglect'. They already have a Certificate of Lawfulness for this from Bromley Council, but would still need Ofsted approval.
The councillors and your representatives pointed out in the strongest possible terms that Precision Care had completely mishandled the entire process by not consulting any local residents or the local councillors about their plans and would now find it next to impossible to gain local support and trust for any facility at this site, particularly as they are a commercial enterprise and not a charity.
Precision Care confirmed that the suitability of the site as a home was not considered when it was purchased. The only deciding factors were the price and that it is large enough to accommodate 4 cared for young people.
After hearing how strongly your councillors and representatives felt about their lack of openness concerning their plans for this site, they offered to reconsider and let us know within 2 weeks whether they will continue to pursue their plans or dispose of this property.
In conclusion, Councillor Jenkins told them that, in his opinion, Precision Care had created such ill-feeling against them locally that they are now extremely unlikely to convince local people that any facility run by them at Atlanta House would be acceptable. He suggested that the sensible option would be for them to abandon their plans altogether.
Having met with Precision Care and heard their promises and assurances, your action group representatives remain wholly unconvinced of the ability of Precision Care to manage any operation at Atlanta House. Our local councillors at the meeting share this view and remain totally supportive of our efforts to ensure that no such Precision Care home opens on this site in Southlands Road.
It is very important that as many residents as possible let Wil Sloan of Precision Care and our Councillors know how they feel about this by writing and phoning.
